Lisa is currently the President and Principal of LA Sutherland group. She is an internationally recognized food and nutrition thought leader who has served in the business, academic and public health sectors, lending to her ability to translate scientific evidence into meaningful consumer centric communication and business strategies. As the principal of LA Sutherland group Lisa is sought out by public and private organizations to provide strategic counsel on food and nutrition issues central to business strategy. She has provided guidance to domestic and international food and beverage companies, retailers, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, public relation firms and trade associations. She specializes in bridging business objectives with health and environmental goals towards creating strong strategies, programs and policies that address obesity, hunger, the planet and the intersection of these critical issues. Lisa previously served as the Vice President of Nutrition for Kellogg North America, leading the nutrition strategy and objectives development and execution for the company’s five North America business units. Prior to that appointment she spent ten years in public health academia as a NIH-funded investigator at Dartmouth College and in nutrition at the University of North Carolina.
Lisa holds a doctoral degree in nutrition from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition science from Simmons College in Boston, MA.
Lori is Managing Director with LA Sutherland group. Lori brings more than 30 years of experience in consulting, public health and healthcare, providing leadership on food and nutrition policy and regulatory affairs, evaluation and research initiatives with a focus on nutrition and obesity prevention. Lori previously served as the Nutrition Policy Manager at the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) where she supported states in the movement to create healthier foods in public places. Lori served as a member of the Guiding Stars Scientific Advisory Panel for six years providing scientific leadership and regulatory expertise on the development and ongoing implementation of the nutrition guidance program for retailers, food service and brands. For ten years, Lori worked at the University of Southern Maine’s Muskie School where she was responsible for implementing an award winning social marketing campaign and state-wide policy and environmental change initiatives focused on healthy weight.
Lori holds a master’s degree in Human Development from the University of Maine and a master’s degree in business from Husson University in Bangor, ME. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biology and psychology from Stony Brook University, and is a registered, licensed dietitian.
Kiyah is Director of Global Scientific Affairs with LA Sutherland group. Kiyah joined LA Sutherland group after more than 10 years in academia, most recently as Assistant Professor of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise at Virginia Tech. Kiyah’s research has focused on understanding the determinants of dietary intake and the long-term associations between dietary intake patterns, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic syndrome. Her academic research has influenced various local and state policies and been featured in Men’s Health Magazine, USA Today, the BBC News, and on NPR’s Morning Edition, Good Morning America, and the NBC Nightly News. Prior to joining LA Sutherland group, Kiyah served as consultant to national policy and scientific organizations as well as non-governmental organizations and food companies on issues including the use and implementation of USDA dietary databases, conducting policy scans to identify opportunities in the early care and education space, and identifying a scientific evidence-base for FDA labeling claims.
Kiyah holds a doctoral degree in nutritional epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and neuroscience from Bowdoin College, in Brunswick, ME.
Parker is an Assistant Account Coordinator with LA Sutherland group. Parker provides support to client accounts that includes media monitoring, influencer database management, issues research, data collection, organization and analysis and report and documents development. When not juggling client projects Parker is most likely to be found at Fenway Park, the golf course or watching his favorite sports team on the big screen (Go Heels!).
Parker holds bachelor of arts degree in communications, with a speciality in corporate communications, from Curry College in Milton, MA.
Emily is a Research Associate with LA Sutherland group. Emily has provided leadership on nutrition and physical activity initiatives in the community and college campus environments. She has worked on nutrition research projects focused on nutrition labeling, fitness and dietary intake. Emily is currently pursuing her masters degrees in exercise science at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. She is an outdoor enthusiast and when not studying or working can be found on a bike, hiking or making a gourmet meal with friends.
Emily has a bachelor of science degree in nutrition and dietetics from Simmons College in Boston, MA and is a registered dietitian.
